HISTORY OF POLLUTIONS

One of the oldest known honey products is bee pollen - mixed pollen grains collected by female worker bees from a wide variety of plants. The pollen from flowers remains on the hind legs of the bee slices and is then mixed with nectar and saliva substances in a pellet. This is taken back to the hive as the main source of food for the bees. Because bees usually harvest more pollen than a colony needs, beekeepers have devised special screens to scrape off excess pollen from the legs when the bees enter the hive. Our bee pollen is produced in Spain from several wildflowers, including Cistus, Lavandula Stoechas and Genista.  Spanish bee pollen is considered the best in the world, not only for its sweet taste, fresh aroma and beautiful golden colour but also for its excellent nutritional value. Bee pollen consists of the male reproductive parts of seed plants, so it is a highly concentrated source of nutrients. A pollen grain can contain up to 5,000,000 pollen spores, each of which is capable of reproducing its entire species.  Bees collect pollen that is rich in nitrogenous substances (amino acids used for protein synthesis) and ignore those that are worse in quality. This natural selection, carried out by the bees, ensures that the bee pollen we ingest is a superior source of essential nutrients.

Production Process

Our pollen is the result of careful and natural beekeeping that is best for the bees, the environment and the overall quality of the final product. It is usually harvested between April and May after the rainy season is over and before the start of summer when the bees collect pollen. A net or thin gauze is placed on the main entrance of the hives so that when the bees come in, the largest pollen balls fall and are collected in a collection box. This process takes place only 3-4 days of the week, and no longer than 4-5 weeks consecutively so that the bees have a sufficient quantity of pollen for their own feed. the collected pollen is then taken directly to a processing centre, wherein special dryers the moisture content is reduced to below 45 ºC. This drying process guarantees the product longer shelf life, without compromising its nutritional value. We avoid hard processing methods such as sterilisation or irradiation, in order to avoid changing the complex composition of the pollen. The pollen is carefully cleaned and passed through several sieves so that foreign particles are removed. It then travels on a conveyor belt on which individual grains undergo precise inspection and approval by expert staff. Our supplier takes pride in the quality of their bee products and has an identification number per batch and beekeeper. In this way, they are easily able to trace the origin of each product and evaluate it effectively. Finally, the pollen is packed in cardboard boxes in a hermetically sealed plastic bag and stored in a cool, dry place. Every measure is taken to ensure that the final pollen reaches us in the best condition.
