Details

Sencha Tea Organic is a refined green tea from Japan, known for its bright colour, fresh aroma and balanced flavour. This authentic Japanese sencha green tea is ideal for anyone seeking a high quality loose tea with consistent character for home use or professional kitchens.

What is Sencha Tea?

This loose tea is a traditional Japanese sencha made from young leaves of Camellia sinensis tea plants. In Japan, sencha is one of the most popular forms of Japanese green tea and has been appreciated since the 18th century. This Japanese sencha is produced using a specific steaming method that defines its style.

Is Japanese Sencha Green Tea healthy?

Sencha green tea naturally contains polyphenols and antioxidants. Because japanese sencha is made from young, unoxidised leaves, these components are preserved during processing. As part of a balanced diet, green tea such as sencha can be a beneficial addition to your daily routine.

Is Sencha high in caffeine? The caffeine content is moderate compared to coffee.

Careful processing to preserve nutrients

Shortly before harvest, the tea plants for Japanese sencha tea are covered with a net to regulate sunlight. After picking in spring, the leaves are immediately steamed to halt oxidation, then rolled and dried. This careful process helps preserve natural polyphenols, including antioxidants such as EGCG, and maintains the fresh character of the leaf. The result is a bright green, needle shaped loose leaf with a fragrance reminiscent of fresh cut grass and freshly cut grass.

Use and preparation of Japanese Green Tea

Sencha loose tea is suitable as a daily beverage, whether in the morning or later in the day. For one cup, use 2 to 3 grams of sencha loose per 200 ml. Boil fresh water and let it cool to around 70 to 80 °C before pouring it over the loose tea. Steep for 1 to 2 minutes, then infuse. Water that is too hot can make the tea bitter. Japanese sencha can be brewed multiple times.

For a cool preparation, add sencha loose to fresh water and let it steep in the refrigerator for several hours. This method highlights the bright green colour and refreshing flavour.

Sencha Loose Tea vs. Matcha

Unlike matcha, which is powdered and fully consumed, sencha is brewed from whole loose leaf tea leaves. The infusion of this product is light green with yellow tones, offering a sweet flavour, subtle sweetness and a refreshing finish. Compared to other green teas, sencha has a more pronounced grassy taste while remaining mellow and delicious.

Great green tea. And organic!
I have been using the matcha from Holyflavours for a while now. When I saw that they also had new Japanese teas, I immediately bought this Sencha to try it out. This is a slightly more 'normal' green tea.

It is full of flavor yet smooth. I really like it!
